The day after the wedding, Igor decided that Casey NEEDED to try an authentic philly cheesesteak. So what did we do?
We went to Philly of course!
Tony Luke's is apparently super highly rated. The word was out. There was a HUGE line coming out of the dive!
We almost didn't remember to take pictures until we were leaving. I'm glad we did! It was a fitting 'last meal' before Igor's court date, as well (big speeding ticket. Big.).
After lunch, we headed into the real downtown. Carrie directed us down a one lane/one way side street that took us into the heart of Philadelphia.
Our mission: hand-made ice cream! Carrie spotted an old fashioned parlor on Google maps. She somehow finagled street view to let her look inside!
Sure it was touristy and overpriced, but it was some amazing ice cream! Carrie and I split a Banana Split (see what I did there?) and the whole group sat for a while talking and eating. We definitely enjoyed ourselves.
Right next door, was an old candy-shop established in 1911. Carrie and I loved the name.
I dragged the group inside. Carrie and I ended up buying some Mary Janes (corn syrup + peanuts!) How could we not support a business with our son's name? We're pretty partial to the little man and it spills over into odd areas.
We wanted to take pictures at the Liberty Bell, but there was a huge line that didn't move anywhere near as quick as Tony Luke's. We ended up walking around and taking a peek through a window before moving on.
It was a fun side-trip to cap off the wedding weekend!
