Swinging Clean

The gate's been acting screwy. It won't close. Our troubleshooting has pinpointed the ground sensor as the issue. It's a cheap part, but seeing as it's buried deep underground it's not a cheap fix. The problems started after the tough day, so we suspect the tamping down the ground could have caused it.

We've been using the package delivery box to keep the gate closed. I had to hop out of the car, open the gate, drive past, hop out, and close the gate each time I've come and gone for work.

The boarders have all asked when the gate was going to be fixed. "Friday," was the response.

Carrie did some ordering online. One order included a spike to hold a 4'x4' post.

Lumber prices are much higher than before the pandemic. Carrie bought a 4'x8' for $25 from the local Ace. It was curving, so we cut off a portion for me to hammer on.

It would've been a lot quicker with a sledge.

We spent about an hour on the project.

My main contributions were brute force and measuring the height the other code box was installed at.

Carrie did the actual install and programming.

She's a hands-on, perfectionist type of woman!

She cut the post down to size after she was done. It looks great!

It's a shame that the gate doesn't open automatically anymore when leaving, but a second post was by far the cheapest and most effective option for a fix. It's nice not to have to hop back and forth anymore!
