194 day contract, but 11 days are workshops, in-services, and workdays. 194 - 11 = 183 days with kids.
92 school days completed out of 183 contracted.
183 days on contract - 2 hurricane days = 181 days with kids total this year.
92 / 181 = the school year is 50.8% over, but who's counting?
The most stressful times of year for me are: January and the end of 2nd quarter, March through right before the SOLs, and the last week of school. Those are when I typically feel like I'm riding a bull, and hoping to hang on.
Making it over the halfway hump is always a bit of a relief.
I started up my night and online classes again, too. I'm taking two online and two in-person courses for a total of 6 credits.
I have 16 viable credits towards the raise I get at 30 credits. 1
6 + 6 = 22 credits.
I'll need to get 8 credits this summer for the raise to take effect.
I would have taken 7 credits, but the Spanish class I wanted to take was canceled. Not enough people signed up. It was 3 credits and a way to work towards one of my resolutions. I ended up scrambling and taking a pair of 1 credit classes and another online course with a co-worker.
The way I figure it, each credit hour I've earned averages out to about 13 hours of work on my part.
13 hours * 30 creds = 390 hours
My stipend for completing the extra credits is $1,400.
$1,400 / 390 hours = $3.59 per hour.
It's not exactly the big bucks is it? The County has not done raises for years, so it's better than nothing. Plus, I get to keep it for however many years I teach.
$1,400 * 10 years = $14,000 and my time was valued at $35.90 an hour.
The raise is foregone if I accept a tech position, though.
I still believe it's worth doing. I'm going to be certified to teach Advanced Academics courses after this semester, I've met new people, and I've learned a few new things. The credits mean I have way more points than necessary for my 5 year re-licensure and over the summer I'll earn almost enough for the next 5 year period.
I, also, wonder what it pays to teach some of these classes for the County. I've been to enough of them I know the general flow of things and maybe that would count in my favor if I apply.
Anyway, just some thinking out loud. I haven't blogged since Wednesday and my only blog post then was a sentence.
I'm trying to make up for lost time. Maybe Shane will find this interesting one day if he's complaining about his own job, heh.
