Beach Week 2021: The Road Home

The one day Shane wanted to sleep in....

7 AM isn't really "sleeping in," though. Two families cleared out before we were even awake. Shane and I would be the 2nd to last car to go. Megan and her boys were riding with Nana and Pop, so they'd be the last.

By the way, I didn't forget.

And Shane did as Nana asked.

I didn't see any reason to make him do it early in case he made even more of a mess later! I helped, too (By adjusting my aim over the course of several days...).

Everyone had to be out by 10 AM. There was a charge for every 30 minutes you lingered past then.

Nana and Pop thought they'd be heading out closer to then, but everyone's work yesterday moved up the time table.

I had planned to let Shane hang out a little with Megan's boys, but they were both worn out from the week!

We said our goodbyes and hit the road around 8 AM. Everyone else left not too long after.

I'd thought about stopping for food and at the rural comic shop on the way home, but we only made a single stop for gas (and a gourmet meal).

We got home around 1:30 PM. The cats were surprised.

We went in through the front door, but Carrie ran out the back door to greet us!

We figured it out!

As excited as Shane and I get about the beach trip every year, Carrie's the opposite. She "doesn't do as well" with us gone. This year, there was a power outage and a heat wave to boot, so she was happy to have her boys home.

To make it an easy but special day, we watched Ant-Man.

It was right on the edge of what I consider appropriate for Shane. He was a little upset about the sheep getting miniaturized, but the scenes with Ant-Man running amongst the ants?

He was mesmerized!

I've never known anyone else to be so fascinated by ants. Every time a winged bug flies by, Shane runs over to see if it's an ant alate.

Shane gave the movie two-thumbs up. He keeps trying to drop 'subtle' hints about the sequel. "I wonder what Ant-Man and Wasp is about..."

Shane's only going to be home for one day before shipping out to camp tomorrow. We're starting off our summer with all the exciting stuff, so that we have time to recover from it later!
