Shane's Alphabet

Have I mentioned my son knows half of the alphabet?

He's hit or miss with a few of the letters and he can't pronounce the 'M' or 'N' so he skips those entirely. It's not like those letters are important enough to learn.

What can you say with 'M' anyway?

Mama?

Oh....

Oops. We'll get working on that right away, Mommy!

Shane has been enjoying letters recently. He's always pointed and named them, but now he's pointing and naming them correctly. It's pretty amazing. Sometimes, I find myself thinking "How'd he pick that up?" I sing the alphabet song; I read books; I don't sit and work on letter identification per se, but the boy is picking it up anyway.

He's a clever boy, I guess. Who am I to stand in the way of progress?

The letter fascination has led to a fascination with Boggle. Shane loves the lettered dice.

I always sit right next to him while we play, because....

Too bad the G was on the same die as the K. I'd have looked harder, but Shane was very interested in the cubes as I tried to arrange them. The TV only distracted him for a little while before he realized Dada was getting into trouble.

We played with the cubes for a while longer until I broke out the iPad to video tape him. All other activities seem boring when the ever so amazing iPad comes out. It gave me a chance to put away Boggle without Shane seeing. It's hard to explain "I don't want you to choke when I'm not looking" to a two-year old.

Carrie dropped Shane off afterschool at my classroom yesterday. I had four girls staying after and they were enthralled by Shane's counting and alphabet reciting.

Have I mentioned my son can count? That will be a different post!.

I'm the image of the annoyingly proud dad when I'm not worn-out, aren't I?
