While the boy is away, the adults will play....with a bow and arrows! It was a beautiful day for Carrie's new hobby. After church, she warmed up by plugging more holes into an unlucky box. Charlie was impressed.
However, it was time to upgrade. Some arrows sank so far into the box their fletching was damaged. A trip to Gander Mountain supplied a suitable replacement (and we found a good Thai restaurant!)
We took our new target to the barn for practice.
And we quickly had to rethink our target location. Calvin was very interested in the arrows. He wasn't very helpful with finding them, though.
Our second shooting location allowed misfires to hit the ground at more sheer angle. They were much easier to track. Jenny tried her hand at it some, too.
Carrie's at the point she's experimenting with different grips. She started with the Mediterranean. Now, she prefers a pinch. She wants a thumb ring to try that out, too.
On the other hand, I hadn't touched the thing. My first shots all pulled right. I started to glance the target by the 12th shot or so.
I didn't have anything else to do while Carrie prepped Mira, so I kept at it.
I'm definitely not as good as she is (yet...).
And Carrie was about to take it to the next level.
She got Mira all dressed up in her Western gear...
...and saddled up Golden Horde style.
There were a lot of steps in between. Carrie had Mira watch me shoot a few rounds outside the stable. Next, Carrie stood next to her in the arena and fired off a round of three. Mira flinched at each, but stood her ground. After a few more rinse and repeats, Carrie practiced riding Mira without hands. I formed a chute in front of the target, and then...
She was very happy with our date, horse, and arrows day.
She let me get on Mira, too.
Carrie fretted the whole minute and a half I was on. She wasn't worried about me, either.
I'm happy to report no husbands or horses were injured from my ride.
