Horseing Around

It was a horse weekend at the McRuari's. We took a family trip to Jenny's barn after church.

Shane's normally happy to run and climb around.

Today was special. He got to go on a short ride with Mommy!

Afterward, Mira got a break and Shane rode solo. He managed to hold on for a short trot.

Our next stop took us north of town to the county border. Carrie's work-friend, Crystal, is now a horse-friend, too. Crystal is housing, Thunder, a rescue-horse Carrie became involved with.

Horses aren't the only animals at Crystal's. Cinnamon, the goat, thinks she's a dog.

All of the ducks, geese, and chickens are used to Crystal's kids chasing them around, too. Shane's a higher energy, but less capable pursuer.

He was fascinated by all of it. Crystal gave us some duck eggs to take home (unfertilized).

We spent a lot of time on Crystal's mountain. Carrie, Crystal, and Liz (another work friend) groomed Thunder.

Shane and I ran around with Crystal's troop of kids and Cinnamon.

Side note: When the yards stretched out between houses, Carrie drooled. She really wants some land one day. "Just give me three acres! Three acres and a small barn!"

I thought this house/view looked really neat.

Our next stop was still horse-related (discounting the gravel in the brake pad I had to fix).

The trailer dealer was closed, but they clearly accommodated after-hours window shopping.

Mommy let Shane look at our new trailer (long story short - Carrie found a Christian rescue organization that really wanted a bumper pull like ours and a consignment trailer that didn't fit most trucks that weren't ours).

There's a small tack room in the front of the trailer. I can see Shane spending the night in it.

It reminded me of when my brothers and sisters and I used to spend the night at Jama and Papa's. Sometimes they'd let us sleep in the motor-home in the driveway. There was something magical and mysterious about sleeping somewhere new and not a house. Maybe a horse trailer can make for a poor man's camper!

After a long day out, we came home, ate, made duck-egg bread, and watched TV. Shane and I were done with horses for the week. Carrie has a trailer date with Jenny to go schooling on Monday, though. She's off, so she can work on Saturday. Normally, they don't let people take off on Monday's, but Carrie's replacement doesn't start until Tuesday. Carrie will train her for her old position all week and then shift to more of her new responsibilities.

Exciting/busy times. I'm trying to hold on 14 more school days until summer, myself.

  1. Wow! What an awesome day! You guys have a great life! That's a great idea to have a sleep out in the loft area of the new trailer! Shane will be so excited.

    Love,
    Mom
