A USB What!?

"There's so much wax I can't see your ear drum," the doctor said.

So Carrie ordered a USB otoscope. "It's cheaper than the copay for a doctor's visit," she said.

I would be more terrified if the camera function wasn't so fascinating.

That was Shane's ear by the way. There's a soft tip just for looking.

This is definitely something that should be used with extreme caution. I could see someone hurting themselves.

Return of the Ear Infections

Well that didn't take long.

Carrie and I took Shane to get looked at today. Genevieve watched him during the day and he acted like he felt fine when he had medicine in his system, but whenever the medicine started to wear out it was clear something was amiss.

Shane got his throat swabbed for strep, his nose probed for the flu, and his ears peeked in.

It was the ears. Go figure, that a tube falls out and WHAM! Ear infection. The other tube is also out but hanging out in the ear canal.

Shane's got antibiotics in his system and Carrie's staying home with him tomorrow. I know we originally wanted to avoid that, but tomorrow is the big science field trip for my team.

It's her turn anyway! Hopefully, it will be a relatively nice day for them. Shane's sick, but the meds are effective. That could mean lots of cuddles, TV, and playing with minimum drama.

I wonder if this is a coincidence or if it's the start of a trend that will lead to surgery again.

It worked wonders the first time, so I'd do it again in heartbeat.

Drumming Up Something Else

Shane is the proud owner of not one, but TWO infected ears.

The fever broke Wednesday morning. By that evening, Shane was pawing at his left ear and acting uncomfortable. I was slow to react. Shane's ears had been cleared last Friday by the pediatrician. They were cleared a second time super early Sunday morning at the hospital. Then they were cleared a third time on Monday when we did our follow up visit with the pediatrician. Wednesday night, I thought "How fast do ear infections develop? The kid's been cleared three times!"

Thursday, Shane was acting more upset. Carrie and I knew the signs. We ended up waiting for an hour to get nurse to see Shane and get a prescription. Shane loves medicine! Not!

He slept well last night, and we've got the meds he needs, so things are going in the right direction. It's time to carry on!
