Turning Back Time

I haven't had hair this long since I was in high school....as a student.

I actually have to comb it after a shower and it gets in my eyes.

Yet, Carrie says for the experiment to go on. Which one of us will hit our limit first?

Trimming down (June 9th to be exact)

Shane finally agreed to a haircut! I have been dropping less than subtle hints, but he wasn't biting.

Shane got swept up in the excitement. He was smiling and looking forward to it (and the inevitable pictures!).

He's such a ham. He was making all sorts of faces in the mirror before Carrie got to it.

Keeping still was difficult. I tried to coach Shane through relaxing and keeping his shoulders down, but it didn't really take.

That's a lot of hair!

The horse shears intimidated Shane a little bit, but they worked so much better than my dull and dying clippers.

He was all grins at first.

But boy is he sensitive! Make one or two comments and he runs off mid haircut! He was the one who said something first!

Shane's patience was shot by the end. He kept squirming around when Carrie was trying to make a line for the fade and it didn't turn out professional quality ("What was that!?" Carrie asked. "I had to shiver!" Shane replied).

Even without the straight cut I think it's a 1,000,000 times better!

I swear it makes Shane look older.

He's always full of a range of facial expressions. It's like he tries them out.

Loki wasn't sure what to think.

I don't know if it was the shorter hair, the shampoo, or the fact that Shane was simply clean, but Loki wouldn't stop trying to check him out!

Shane really loved feeling his fuzzy hair. I think he's going to appreciate having less hair in the summer heat to come.

COVID 19 - The Coronavirus: Haircut!

"I'm getting tired of my hair covering my ears," I said.

Carrie got the horse shears.

So much for a little off the sides!

Carrie made me go viking!

The most unpleasant part was when she put product in my hair and wrenched it into place!

I didn't realize she left a strip on the back of my head until later (See the farmer tan lines?).

Carrie was shocked I let her do it. I was just happy to have my ears uncovered.

I felt cold afterward and eventually put a coat on!

If the goal was this, my hair needs to grow out more.

My fear was I'd look like this:

Carrie's dream was probably that I'd turn out like this!

Kudos to you if you got all three references. I've only seen the last two!

So, the long and short of this is I had long hair and now it's shorter...in places.

I'm not planning on using much product ever, so we'll see if the hair gets modified when civilization gets social again!

Church Friends!

No school! Hooray for MLKJ!

My day started with horse chores and a trip to the orthopedist. Shane came to look at my x-rays and give Carrie some space.

Nothing was broken! We celebrated with haircuts.

The second half of our hay for the year was being delivered when we got back home.

At least I hope it's for the rest of the year. Carrie's talked about ways to cut costs for next winter already.

The real fun for Shane didn't start until after lunch. We took Loki to the park.

We met Shane's friends from Sunday school there for a play day!

Half the time, Shane's the only kid at our church. The other half the time, the Cartwrights show up. It turns out two of the kids go to Shane's school, too.

Logan and Shane ran around with Nerf guns. Claire tried to skateboard. Julia and the baby dragged Loki around by his leash!

Loki was a really good boy. His neck was probably sore by the end of it.

Julia went back and forth from Loki to trying to mess with the boys. There were lots of shenanigans and some conflicts, but nothing that wasn't resolved easily enough.

I was surprised to find out how much I had in common with the parents. The mom was from NOVA and went to Thomas Jefferson HS until her family moved to the middle of WV (culture shock!). She was a twin and they'd lived in Houston for a while and actually knew where Beaumont was. To top it off, there kids went to Venable at one point and she used to walk them past my old school! She knew Mr. Brown from him walking out to say hello!

The dad wasn't there, but he'd gone to Charlottesville high school and wrestled for Coach Romanac. Coach Romanac's wife, Connie, was my good friend the secretary at LMA! Go figure!

If the oddly warm winter holds up, we'll have to have another playground meetup. All the kids are too wild to have around the horses. Especially with the nervous wreck that showed up today.....but that's another post!

The Pre-Birthday

We met Grandma and Grandpa in Richmond on Saturday.

Two reasons:
1) Carrie and Grandma wanted Grandpa and I to see a model house they liked.
2) Shane's birthday is soon and Grandma and Grandpa would be out of town. They wanted to have lunch and open presents.

Shane chose to eat at Arby's. It's definitely a fancier, fast-food place (if I'm allowed to put 'fancy' and 'fast-food' together).

Shane really likes opening presents.

Grandpa and Grandma like watching him open them.

Carrie hates me taking pictures of her that aren't approved! I thought this was a pretty one!

The big hit was a book on fishing. I may have to learn more about the sport at this rate. Shane's really fond of it. Maybe Carrie will cook something we catch.

It was phrased as a present for Shane, but I was thrilled to get his haircut after we got back in town.

Carrie went to the barn and Shane and I went to Great Clips.

It had been too long....

Shane's real birthday and his birthday party will hit during the week. Stay tuned!

Haircuts

This kid needed a haircut.

Look at all that hair!

Buzzzzzzzz.

Mission accomplished.

I needed one myself. Got one the next day.

Mission accomplished times two.

Saturday Eve

It's the long February-March stretch at work. There are no more days off until Spring Break unless God sends some snow our way.

Wrestling is almost over, though. I went to the high school after teaching to get a work out setting up mats.

Nana and Pop picked up Shane from school while I helped.

I got a text from Nana asking, "Can we get Shane a haircut?"

I replied, "Buzz that sucker bald."

Which is extra funny, because Nana texted Carrie, too. Carrie replied, "Anything but bald."

My other recommendations ("Mohawk? Samurai topknot?") were shot down in turn.

Turned out well in the end. I had thought about buzzing Shane before Nana and Pop arrived, but was busy.

We met for dinner at Wegmans. It feels like The Pub is where Carrie always wants to go when Nana and Pop are in town!

We said our good-nights and parted ways after a little grocery shopping. The big wrestling day would be on the morrow.
