In Hunt of Food

From Tuesday continued:

I picked up Shane from school after surviving Teacher Appreciation Day.

Our first stop was Chipotle. There was a free burrito with my name on it.

A look in the door reminded me why I have never gone to the Chipotle in Charlottesville.

My time is worth more than a free burrito for teaching.

Luckily, we hit the jackpot at Harris Teeter. There were multiple "Buy 2, Get 3 Free" sales going on!

Carrie has enough flavored coffee to last her through summer. Shane and I will  hide the Cheez-Its from her and get to experience a wide variety of flavors for our troubles!

I was careful not to buy any cold items, because our next step was Costco. Shane and I had pizza for dinner before getting the rest of our groceries.

In case you are curious, Shane's colon called for it's typical Costco pit-stop. I had to re-instruct the boy on stall etiquette, as well. Shane was cackling and kicking the stall door open and shut from the porcelain throne when I went to check on him.

Another Out and About Saturday

Basketball - We arrived slightly late. I think the coaches really wanted to try and win this time. Shane only played in two six minute periods instead of three. I don't know if that was an oversight or an attempt to play the better players.

Waiting is difficult for Shane.

Taken later - Which of these players on the sidelines are paying attention? Who is not?

I filmed the first six minutes, but didn't film the second outing. Shane keeps looking over at me and the camera. I enjoy taking pictures, but I think he's too focused on it.

The final score: 42-20. Shane's team hasn't won a game yet, but they've consistently increased their score.

We hung around for snack time and debriefing.

Then we hopped into the car and drove to Orange County for the district wrestling tournament. I missed the beginning rounds, but I like to make my presence known and support the wrestlers.

Shane wanted to say hi to Lidia and Chyna, but didn't see them in the stands. They were mat side and he wanted me to take him down there, but I managed to pawn it off on Subba.

I am strategically lazy. I like to try to get other people involved, so they have memories and connections.

Shane played some Angry Birds and did some bleacher gymnastics to entertain himself while I watched and coached some.

We stayed until after an art lesson and the finals were underway.

We left to pick up a rotisserie chicken for Carrie. She'd spent the day driving and riding and was on the way back herself. She needed the chicken to make chicken noodle soup (both for us and for a friend with the flu).

I did not realize it would be such an adventure to buy a $5 chicken. Wegmans was out. I had all my other groceries and then they told me it would be over half an hour. Shane and I popped over to Food Lion, but Carrie requested Costco sized birds so we re-routed. Only Costco was closed when we got there. It was back to Wegmans and then home for the night!

Shane was a good sport about the driving. I let him pick where we had dinner for the night. He saw some wrestlers wearing Burger King crowns, so we stopped there before Costco. He was still wearing his crown when we met Mommy at home.

It Broke

Carrie broke her foot again. Same one as last time.

Thursday night, Carrie said, "My foot hurts."

An hour or two later, "I think it's swelling."

The next morning, she got an x-ray and a surgical boot (in that order). Stress fracture. My wife is going to be stomping around with one black boot for the next couple of months.

It made for a hilarious trip to Harris Teeter, though!

I coaxed Carrie into sitting on Shane's favorite cart with him! Aren't they cute together?

I got a big kick out of carting Carrie and Shane around. The cart was so long I pretended it was a boat. I broke out all my nautical terms. "Full speed ahead!" "Bringing over to starboard!" "Dropping anchor in dairy!"

Carrie was a good sport with all the wisecracks. I think she was half-annoyed and half-amused by my laughing. I won't know for sure until I ask her to hop in again! I'm thinking it would be fun to pretend to be a race car....
