I've upgraded. Instead of the floor or a pillow, I now have a partly deflated bean bag chair to sit on for work!
Carrie didn't think the duct tape would work to fix the seams. She didn't realize I planned on using duct tape AND gravity. I flipped the chair so that the busted seams all point up. There are less pellets on the floor and my butt feels better after being in front of the computer all day.
I could buy something better, but my mindset is "Find joy with what you already have," and "This is temporary anyway."
Carrie did buy something better for Shane. She found an adjustable desk at Costco. His workstation is out in the common area.
On the plus side, Shane has decided he likes to read more on Epic. It's almost always comics (Bright Family, Garfield, Peanuts, Smurfs), but it is reading! I'd prefer if he mixed in some books, too, but I don't want to push and turn his interest into a chore.
The one thing I don't know about is Shane likes to listen to music while he reads. In particular, he likes to listen to this:
It's not offensive or anything. The music is pretty catchy. I just doubt Shane's ability to focus on two things at once. I periodically walk around to see if he's watching Youtube instead of reading when he says he is.
Honestly, I don't get the appeal of watching the same video of someone else playing a game repeatedly. Shane talked it up forever and I let him show it to me. I watched a couple of minutes trying to keep an open mind, but my feelings were "This is dumb." As background music? Sure. But watching? Why not play yourself?
Side note: Shane has been asking to read in bed. He wants me to leave the lights on after prayers.
You know what? I let him do it.
He falls asleep with the light on almost every night. I grumble when I go turn it off, but if Shane is spending solo time with a book it's worth it.
Now if only the books weren't always Dogman comics that he's read a million times....
