Fishing Weekend (Summer)

Fresh off of Highroad, Shane got to go on a fishing trip with Grandpa! Shane always talks about how awesome and amazing SC is. Grandpa wanted to have some Shane time, too!

We think it's fabulous. Grandpa can claim the fishing niche! Shane really wants to likes it. I've taken him before and Shane's enthusiasm made the day, but I'm happy to pass the torch on to someone else. Shane's been fishing when visiting Grandma and Grandpa's for years and years. A trip is a natural evolution from that.

We said our goodbyes in the Wawa parking lot near Short Pump in Richmond.

And then promptly met up again when we dropped by Chic-Fil-A to get Carrie a diet lemonade! Ha!

We ended up eating lunch all together. They had their chicken and we had our subs!

Shane and Grandpa went off that night to VA Beach. Grandpa took him to the beach and they hung out before going to bed. Their trip left in the morning. Grandpa sent Carrie pictures.

Grandpa said Shane was the boat's ambassador. He went around chatting it up and knew about everyone's business! Fish were caught. Just nothing huge or worth keeping. Shane had been looking forward to bringing something home to eat! He also said there was few times peoples lines got their lines tangled together, but he had a lot of fun. It was a successful trip, Grandpa!

It went well enough Grandpa wanted to do Round 2 in August. Huzzah! Shane's really hoping he'll get to catch something worth eating this time.

We all met up at the Mexican restaurant in Zion's Crossroads on Sunday.

Random: I do it less when I'm behind, but I do crop and resize photos. Sometimes it makes all the difference in the world (I'm looking right back at you, lady!).

Shane ordered the taquitos, but it was clear to me he liked the frozen ones from Costco much better. He was subtle enough to not complain openly, but when Shane likes something he inhales it. The taquitos lingered. I helped him by eating half of his order. I texted Carrie after the first couple if I should keep helping and she said, "Go for it." I showed Shane the text later. It never occurred to him that we'd traded messages and that she'd cued me to help (Teamwork makes the dream work!). We both hope that we model to him what a loving, working marriage looks like.

I was very full when it was time to go. There'd been a storm raging the whole time we ate. We timed our exit perfectly for a lull.

Shane did what Shane does best on the way out: Act silly.

He kept it up like the world was watching even if they weren't! We said our "Love you's" and hugged our goodbyes before the rain started up again.

We waved another time when we pulled up next to Grandma and Grandpa at the light. Shane had a great weekend. He's been blessed to have fun activities on both sides of the family this summer (and he even got a sneak preview of the beach on this one).

Grandpa would love to take Shane to a baseball game, too, but so far Carrie's warned him off. Grandpa loves it, but Shane would most likely mope and hurt his feelings. I wanted Shane to like and play baseball myself. It never stuck. Right now, we're looking forward to the next fishing event. Go, Grandpa go! That's all you now!
