I was surprised the thunder didn't wake anyone before the sun. I came out of a dream and as I re-positioned one clap shuddered the windows. I froze. The house was quiet save the rain. With a shrug, I fell back asleep.
When morning came, all was not well. Carrie felt off enough to take a sick day. She parked herself and moved the minimum she could get away with. Shane got to watch a lot more TV and Rogue Legacy than he normally would of! It was just one of those days.
No that we didn't do some active activities. Shane only wants to draw on paper in my lap.
And I have to be writing on it. My pen becomes the chosen one.
I tell him to scram and get his own paper half the time. The other half, like today, become impromptu doodling lessons.
I don't have a lot of tricks, but I like to transform mistakes and things he draws into other shapes. I tell him to "turn mistakes into pictures."
We doodle for an hour before Mommy work up. It's an easy way to see things on Shane's mind!
In between storms, we went out to look for bird feathers and waterfalls.
I used to teach 7th graders about runoff. Shane's fascinated.
He even found some feathers.
Two.
Then he lost them on the swings.
He was more torn up by it than I.
The streets and park were empty as we walked. It was a weekday, so it could be that most everyone was out. Or maybe no one wanted to risk the rain. I grew up in Beaumont, so rain doesn't bother me (especially when it's warm). We used to swim in ditches, spelunk under the driveway, and slide through mud.
I coached Shane through a quick intro to wet grass.
Not that I had any intention of joining him. Can you see how wet it is out there? I'd probably bust my butt.
Those were the two quick highlights of the day. The rest was something of a stasis. We stayed inside, played some video games, and watched TV. Carrie remembered the Roku pin, and we added Nick Jr to our channels. Now Shane can watch Blaze and Paw Patrol somewhere other than Nana's.
It'll be back to work and back to normal tomorrow! I can only stay in for one day at a time.
