Shane's white belt shakedown was today.
Did I say shakedown? I meant test.
For a small fee, Shane tested for his white belt during his normal class.
The main differences were he got reminded he was testing whenever he goofed off and he got pulled at the end to stand in front of the line during forms practice.
Then he got to break a board!
He liked breaking the board! My mental estimation of his instructor's forearm strength raised several notches.
My earlier cynicism was mostly in jest. The classes are worth the price and borderline cheap for what they offer. If Shane only tests a couple of times a year, the fee doesn't change much. If he tests every two months?
The low entry costs makes the classes attractive and available, but unless there are scholarships I wonder how affordable they are to a family struggling to make ends meet...
I just turned a post about Shane's white belt into a business analysis. It wasn't intended. I meant to make a joke and....I like to think and got carried away. Now, it's too much to delete. I amused myself today observing what one dad was programming and figuring out how the school used little books to keep attendance.
Bottom line: Shane had a good class and passed his test. TKD should be good for him. The award ceremony is a pot-luck on Saturday!
I'm so glad Shane likes taekwondo. You loved it and were always so proud when you broke a board during testing. You made it all the way to black belt so maybe Shane will, too. That's really cool that they have a potluck on Saturday! We never had anything like that to celebrate kids passing their tests for the next belt.
