Saturday morning was a flurry of preparations to get the house neat and keep it that way.
That meant mitigating the Shane factor. I took him out first thing in the morning to buy shin guards for soccer.
And he was dressed for TKD!
Shane would have preferred to buy fishing gear, but he got to play a game of hockey with punching pads instead.
He's good at it, he knows it, and he's not shy (I wish he showed more restraint!).
We had to change in the car as we rushed to Shane's soccer game after class ended. There was a new player on the team. I overheard Shane on the wind saying, "I'm one of the toughest guys on the team!"
He's not modest, but at least he's confident.
Our coach is pretty quiet and I found that I fell into my old habits to fill the void. Shane play-acted embarrassed when I congratulated him after a stop, but I know he ate it up. He couldn't stop smiling.
We lost 8-4, but I thought it was good showing. There were 3 goals in the first two minutes when a brand new player was in goal and didn't know what to do. The kids seemed to play much more fluidly after I started calling out and we switched goalies (First, Anthony and eventually a kid from the other team). Sam, Iker, and Abdullah were the main attackers with Sam and Iker working some passing strategies. Anthony, Shane, and Rocky were defense.
There was no rush to return home, so we partied on the playground after.
I prodded Shane into making sure he included Abdullah and was proud he listened. I told him so on the way to the car.
We got changed and ended up on the road again later. We went by The End Games and I sent Carrie a potential new game to add to the collection...
No kittens or Mikes were harmed. The game is about protecting the kittens from falling into trouble....and I didn't buy it anyway (self-discipline, for the win).
Shane and I met Carrie at Hair Cuttery while she got her hair touched up. There was a line, so I slid over to Great Clips and got my ears lowered while we waited.
There were many other side trips. We dropped by the craft store (with Shane protesting mightily). I texted Carrie a pic of a poster I knew she'd laugh at.
Dinner was at Chic-Fil-A. I'd hoped there would be a swarm of kids for Shane to play with, but there was but a few. Carrie was upset when she saw someone turn around to drive backwards through the drive through! "That's so stupid!" she yelled.
Meanwhile, I couldn't stop laughing.
If they hit someone, they'd have to take responsibility. Otherwise, it's harmless fun in my opinion.
They may have been bending over or trying to play a 'ghost-driver' prank. I didn't see anyone when we drove by, but it's not like it was the best angle.
It was an adventure filled day. There were only three appointments to see the house, so hopefully we'll get more traffic tomorrow.
