Carrie called Sarah. She asked to officially rename Alvin to Anthony Hopkins. She's been sending me bunny pictures at work.
I may be in trouble.
Carrie repurposed Loki's pen into a bunny cage.
She put a throw under it to collect all the bunny pellets.
He's "litter trained" in that he'll pee in a litterbox rather than the carpet (supposedly).
Carrie put a cardboard box around the litterbox to make a 'cave,' but bunny likes to chew and destroy carboard.
He does it loudly, too. Carrie was asleep one night and he kept waking her up. She eventually removed the box and it hasn't returned.
Carrie did put a plastic box for bunny to hop on and off to replace the carboard box. Only this time, bunny used it as a springboard to get out of bunny jail. Loki woke Carrie up. Loki was excited and following the rabbit around the living room (probably hoping for a taste of rabbit butt).
So far Shane and Carrie are both enamored. Her interest is stronger than Shane's, but when she pulls the rabbit out of the cage Shane will run over. He'll ask to hold Mr. Bunny, but so far his opportunities have been limited.
He hops up to cats and/or dogs with impunity. Frankly, it seems to intimidate the cats. Loki thinks it means "time to play!"
Cats are hunters and the cats in The Warriors series Shane and I are listening to definitely kill and eat rabbits. If A were to show a prey response and run it might trigger a cat to follow, but so far the cats either sniff or run when little bunny foo foo comes hopping through the house.
He's only let out of the cage under supervision, so that lowers the odds of any 'accidents.'
By the end of the week, Carrie's rearranged the pen several times. The final(?) iteration involves a custom-made feeder from an empty milk carton.
So....yeah. I'm getting pretty worried. Carrie's acting like she's getting attached. The little guy runs over to the side of the cage whenever she walks up to it.
I've managed to avoid doing anything other than refilling a water bowl a couple of times, so maybe Alvinthony will be like the fish. He helps keep Carrie occupied while she's sick, so I haven't been inclined to set him free (and potentially feed the hawks)....yet.
This post was extra fascinating and funny! I am such a fan of little Bunny Foo Foo! Carrie sure has a way with animals. My own dog doesn't let me sit by her and pet her. That is the sweetest, cutest little bunny ever. Good luck!
