Raheem got a remote controlled car for his birthday. The boys liked it, but one kid driving a car in circles quickly bored me.
So, I decided to teach them how to improvise. What's a car without a course?
Morale was an early problem. Shane wanted to Raheem to share his toy. Shane's definition of sharing was for Raheem "to give it to me right now." He sang a sharing song from Daniel Tiger repeatedly. I told him that "No one has to share a brand new toy right away."
This was the result.
Now, I also mentioned to Raheem, "New toys are great, but they get old real quick with no one to play with." He didn't have to share, but I hoped he would eventually. It's more fun with a friend.
Shane came out to play eventually. My original plan worked. With only one car, whoever was without needed something to contribute. Shane played engineer.
Eventually, Shane got a turn, too. It's more fun to play together.
