Don't get confused. Help out!
We had our first ever home match tonight. It wasn't at our middle school, but it was adjacent to where we practice.
I had seven wrestlers show up. The other team brought twenty-two!
Luckily, the other coach and I thought similarly: Get as many wrestlers on the mat as possible. He agreed to 1-1-1 round times to keep my boys fresh and we cycled through them multiple times. My kids lost more than they won (4-13?), but there were bright spots. It was definitely a strong program.
Tonight was, also, the band concert. Half my wrestlers had to shower and be ready to perform right after the match. I was worried no one would show, but I was only down one. Maybe now my wrestlers will start to show up more than once or twice a week (I can't compete with something they're graded for!).
Funny story:
The ref started off his introduction with "Now that we're into the season, I'm going to call cautions. You should know the proper starting position."
"Actually, this is our first match," I replied.
"Right." He paused. "So, we're not going to call cautions. We're going to..."
Other Funny Story:
Carrie took Shane to TKD while I was at the meet. I don't know which of us was more tired when I got home around 7 PM!
