Day 1: Animal Kingdom

Saturday started earlier than it should have. It wasn't before 7:00 AM (Hallelujah!), but someone couldn't contain his excitement.

And then our Disney adventure started off in guest services. The FastPass App wasn't cooperating. Carrie and Shane showed signs of fatigue.

We got back on track eventually. Grandpa and Grandma had everything planned out. We grabbed lunch and went to the Lion King show first.

Second, we went on a safari.

Animal Kingdom is the biggest of the parks. They hide it well, but on a map (or safari) it shows.

Jet lag is a bitch, though. Then bumpy drive kickstarted Carrie's motion sickness.

She needed to take a break, but that got Shane cranky. He started to pout and say things like, "I want Mommy," and "I want to go home!"

Grandpa and I took him on a train to distract him. Some Lion Guard posters caused a slight break in the clouds, but it was mainly funk.

Our last stop of the day was the Finding Nemo Musical. Carrie was there and less nauseous. Shane felt better, too, when he saw her.

Shane loved it. He complained and objected in line, but came out bouncing and skipping. Whichever cast member clicked the "easy button" has my thanks (Next time, click it sooner!).

Grandpa and Grandma were ready to wander more of the park, but Carrie and Shane were cooked. We went home to rest and recuperate. Carrie went to bed early while the rest of us stayed up to watch fireworks from afar.

In retrospect, a day in town to recover from travel would have been nice. There was only so much time Carrie and I could take off work, though, and the reduced crowds were appreciated. I can't imagine a Disney trip in the heat of the season!
