Pickup Truck Pick Up

Carrie and I had a date weekend. We drove up to Harrisburg, PA to pick up our new truck.

It would have cost $350+ to pay for a transport service. Instead, Carrie found a one way car rental for ~$115, a hotel room for ~$115, and we spent the rest on food and gas and made an adventure out of it.

We had breakfast at a cafe off Main Street in Front Royal, VA.

We enjoyed the views of Heartland, America.

We fixed Carrie's Wilbur Chocolate itch.

(Who have apparently downsized to the building across the street. Carrie was disappointed they had no chocolate dipped strawberries.)

I wonder how my students would react to the farms of PA. I worry that their worlds are too small, but wonder if they would all have their cell phones in hand and miss the views.

Thankfully, there's a lot more than farms to PA. Carrie and I picked up the truck and dropped off the rental at the airport. Then we went to a cheap theater in a mall and watched The Secret Life of Pets. There was an Auntie Anne's. It was heavenly.

Carrie had looked up a bull riding show and some other events, but we settled in to our hotel room for dinner and the rest of the night. A cold front and storm were on the way. Rain, sleet, and wind buffeted the walls.

It wasn't glamorous, but we were very happy. Plus, Harrisburg is close enough to Philly one can order a great Philly cheesesteak or two for delivery.

Sunday, we headed back south. Harrisburg is a neat looking place. I wouldn't mind visiting in warmer weather.

Bonus points: We passed a military convoy on the way home. We waved and some of the rear view privates danced! They must have been freezing!

We got home around 2:00 PM. Carrie wasn't shy about making her own parking (It's certainly one advantage of a large truck).

We didn't stay long. We had to drop the truck off for a state inspection, pick up Carrie's car, and retrieve Shane from Richmond. We didn't get home till 5:45 PM.

Hopefully, this new truck will last us for over a decade. It had 57k miles on it at that start of our journey back. It's got four-wheel drive and a v10 to get up the mountain that killed our last hauler.
