At 7 AM a semi-truck full of lumber looked at our driveway today and said, "Nope." I found it ironic, because many semis had to pull into our lot for our house to be built.
Carrie and I have been up and moving by 7 AM each morning. There's a lot to be done and we don't have blinds or shades. The sunlight streams in.
Carrie started working on a side project she's been dreaming up for a while. She used reclaimed barn wood to make a backsplash in our kitchen. She ordered a Dremel hand tool to notch the planks so that they'll fit around the sockets.
I wasn't needed to help, so I kept moving boxes and things into the house. I spent a lot of time pulling clothes out and hanging them up.
The garage is looking better. I rebuilt the storage racks and have been breaking down boxes. We'll still need to move in the keyboard at some point, but we have no idea where to put it.
The semi-truck can back later and made the turn. All the big trucks use the future horse arena as a turn around. The barn boys have been working on putting up all of the sides of the barn. The finished putting up some flashing on the roof by the end of the day, as well.
Carrie advanced her backsplash to the point she'd need to cut down planks by hand to fit them on the top row. She called a break and we did some research into table saws. I called at least four different stores looking to see if anyone rented one.
We would have gone to Lowes right then, but Haverty's was in the process of delivering and assembling a bunch of furniture.
I'd heard we were getting a couch with a sleeper section, a table, and a fireplace.
I had not realized the scale of said items or that there were other things included with that.
The hope is this furniture will last us the next 30 years. I'm at my limit.
Unfortunately, there were some screws and bolts missing and the Haverty guys weren't able to finish assembling the entertainment center. They're going to have to come back later.
We moved the table after they left so that we could roll out a carpet underneath it. That sucker is solid. It's expandable and should be great for gaming.
The next glaring deficiency was addressed around 2:30 PM. No washer and dryer....
.....Washer and dryer.
One guy carried those in and installed them. He was shorter than me, but built like an NFL running back. He was the last delivery of the day, so we were now free.
With a storm at our back, Carrie and I drove out to Zion's crossroads to do some shopping. We got a table saw, but we still need a trash can. We picked up some king sized sheets at Walmart and new flip flops for me (My old ones died while I was carrying in a box).
I wanted to work on the desk, but Carrie was a woman driven. She desperately wanted to finish the backsplash, so that she could blow her parents' minds when they visited us.
She did a fantastic job. It looked awesome.
We didn't get any further with the desk, but we made a lot of progress elsewhere. It's a full time job moving in. It'll feel more complete to me when Shane's here. Carrie added, "And the horses" when I voiced my thoughts aloud.
