Shane started virtual school from the couch.
Looked comfy!
He has his "Essentials" time in the AM: Music, Art, PE, and Library. He may have one or two a day and they last about 30 minutes.
His first virtual class of the year was music. The teacher talked about how to blow gently through the recorder. Shane was quick to show he already knew how to play "Hot Cross Buns."
"Your weeks ahead!" the teacher said. "I'll put some extra links up for you!"
Class time with his homeroom didn't start until noon. That zoom was a longer one, three hours!
Unfortunately, noon is right in the middle of one of my blocks! Shane was 45 minutes one day (probably picking his nose) while I was teaching. When my class ended and I turned the recording off I went to check on him (Carrie was at the barn with the farrier that day).
Mr. Bahn must not have noticed Shane in the waiting room, so he was already in the thick of it.
I made Shane get up and make himself lunch (which he'd forgot!).
I got Shane situated and in his class with a few minutes before I had to start my next class of the day.
So far, Shane really likes virtual school. He thinks it's easy and "we can do it from anywhere! Even Nana's!"
Thursday, I found Shane doing a movement/yoga break when I got my lunch.
Elementary virtual school seemed like a very different beast than secondary virtual school to me. I'd say that my classes went smoother than what I saw of Shane's, but I only saw a small window. I teach from 11:15 AM -12:45 PM and then 1:15-2:45 PM which eats up most of Shane's 12-3 PM window (and the kids got out a little early most days).
In a surprise twist, we got an email Thursday that Mr. Bahn is leaving the school! The email said, "personal reasons." There wasn't much else to go on.
Shane was excited about having the same teacher as last year, but that lasted all of three days. Carrie and I hope Mr. B will be there for the next couple of weeks and tell the kids goodbye before he goes.
And yes, Shane wore the same clothes all three days. I made him take a shower Thursday night. Less laundry is one perk of doing things virtually!
