Beach 2017 - Day 1

Shane and I were going on a trip, but Shane didn't know it. We were supposed to go to the beach on Monday. However, Carrie had a bunch of horse stuff going on, the HVAC died, and it's the beach.

Nana and Pop couldn't check in until after 3 PM, so I planned to take Shane after the initial rush.

TKD helped work out some of his energy before the six and a half hour drive (~400 miles).

Shane earned his 10th ninja sticker and got a prize. It didn't keep him distracted for long. I made a right instead of a left and he got suspicious.

We didn't miss the traffic. Most of the drive went down, but the last leg of the journey was an ocean of traffic.

I had to get out of my car (still bumper to bumper in the road) and stand in line for a parking pass.

Pop arrived and rescued Shane. He got to play with his cousins for an hour before I made it to the beach house. They were having so much fun, Nana didn't even realize I wasn't there.

This year, the beach house was in a campground. There was an RV section in the center, small streets, and wall to wall beach houses everywhere else. Some of the beach houses were old RVs with porches added on. It looked like they evolved into mobile homes and then full on beach houses. It was crowded, but interesting to look at.

Golf carts were the most popular option of transportation.

The rules were strict and the quarters confined, or Shane might have gotten a driving lesson (Don't worry, Carrie. 'Strict,' meant 'we will fine and evict the whole household.')

The kids were pumped to see each other...

...and the cacti. Stu supervised.

No one was injured Day 1.

Pizza and TV ended the night.

Though even those couldn't keep the boys completely still.

Evelyn's more of a sitter. She watched the TV and the chaos, amused.

The adults were all happy to sit and talk. It's been a while since we were all gathered (Christmas!).

The boys wrestled on full stomachs. Shane's 6 and a half, Cole's 5, and Billy's 3. It's a little bit of a spread, but so far it works. Evelyn, 3, opted out of the rough-housing.

The adults took over the couch when the kids went to bed around 8:45 PM. Cole and Evelyn were up way past their bedtime! They're normally down by 7:00ish PM.

Everyone went to bed tired. The beach would have to wait for tomorrow.

  1. Pop and I loved this! We can't wait to read about Day 2. Even though we were there, you told us things and showed us pictures we had missed in the midst of all the action. Thank you!
