Christmas Eve 2017

I finally got a haircut.

Merry Christmas, Jama, Nana, and Carrie!

"You ought to have been whipped for having your hair so long!" Jama said. "You looked homeless!"

Glad to know my family cares! It felt good to have my hair short again. I can't believe I ever thought about having long hair when I was younger.

Carrie and I spent the morning out together and on errands. We got breakfast at a Duncan Donuts, chopped off my locks (with a coupon from Pop), and then hit up some grocery stores to shop for Christmas dinner.

Our first stop: Lidl.

I've never seen a grocery story with a woodwind section before.

Neat store. It had to be European. The soda aisle was tiny with few diet options.

The water and non-soda drink aisle was twice as long.

The wine section easily tripled the measly beer...container. It looked like an afterthought with some new and unheard of generic brands.

Neat story, but they didn't have any beef tenderloins. Carrie and I moved on to Publix next.

You know you're in the South when....

I got smacked in the arm for suggesting gator for Christmas dinner. I was looking for a reaction when I brought over the conch meat next.

It was a fun morning out! We bought everything we needed and got home to play with Shane.

Carrie re-discovered the joys of childrens' toys.

I should have taken more video.

Nana tried to get some pictures, too, but the "kids" were constantly in motion.

Then there was artwork. Nana insisted "decorating river stones" was a big thing. I doubt it. However, Carrie humored her and showed off her artistic ability.

Then the time came for Christmas Eve service. Nana provided Shane with an elf outfit and me with blackmail pictures for years to come.

We carpooled together. It was crowded, so Carrie and I sat upstairs in the balcony. Shane, Jama, Pop, and Nana sat downstairs.

It helped we were early.

Nana wanted to show us the cemetery on the way home. Yes, you read that right. There are several pokestops and a war memorial.

It was pitch black. Cemeteries aren't known for their extensive night lighting systems.

It was a short detour. We got home in time for bed. Shane was bursting with excitement. He wanted to know how Santa was going to get in to drop off the presents, etc. Thankfully, he was worn out enough to fall asleep quickly.

I hope he's been a good boy this year, so that he's not disappointed come tomorrow!
