"When can I wake up?" Shane asked.
"8 AM," Carrie replied.
"He's been waking up at 7 AM every day. How about 7:30 AM?" I said.
Of course, I never believed Shane would be able to wait that long for Christmas morning. I stumbled out of bed at 7 AM and went downstairs. Amazingly, Shane was still asleep, so I laid down on the couch and went back to sleep.
I woke up a little after 7:30 AM to the sounds of Shane waking Nana up (Who said she also woke up at 7 AM, because she never figured Shane would be able to make it that long).
I think we started to open presents around 7:40 AM.
In my sleepy haze, I had been determined to be there and not miss out on Shane opening presents.
However, I forgot to wake up Carrie before the festivities started. She came down a couple of minutes later and was disappointed we had started without her (Sorry, Love!).
Carrie felt better when everyone started to open up the presents she brought. Carrie had put a lot of effort into picking, creating, and wrapping. Nana loved her "traditional banana box of goodies" including gum and socks!
Jama was amazed at what Carrie had picked out for her, too (She came in around 8 AM). "Carrie! I think you spent all the money I gave you on me!" Jama said.
After a morning of presents, I showed Shane what Nana and Pop had got him with some of their Christmas money: A Transformers video game.
Carrie got started on Christmas dinner somewhere around 2 PM.
She asked me to peel potatoes. I managed to keep my fingers intact and the potatoes blood free.
Cousin Kerry came over with her fiance, Dr Matt! She'd just gotten engaged! Dr Matt won Shane over right away with Pokemon Go on his phone (Note: He's not a Dr yet, but he needed a prefix of some sort to prevent mass confusion. We already had 'Big Matt' and 'Little Matt' who are the opposite sizes of what their prefixes hint at).
I asked Kerry if Dr Matt was intelligent or athletic to avoid her punches. "Intelligent," was the reply!
Kerry and Dr Matt had really only come for a moment, but when they saw Carrie's Beef Wellington dinner they decided to stay.
Carrie would have preferred a traditional medium-rare, but due to her audience (Jama, Nana, and me) she cooked it longer (Way to take one for the team, Love!).
I helped mince all the apples for dessert.
Carrie did everything else!
Christmas dinner was a big win.
Right before dinner, we learned that Shelby proposed to Patrick. Kerry sent a text, "Hey! No stealing my thunder by getting engaged yourself!"
It was a fun night. God has blessed us with a whole lot of love in the family. We can only love because He loved us first.
