And We're Out!

We made it to Grandpa and Grandma's! Not all of us stayed awake for the whole trip.

Shane nodded off four miles from the Grandma and Grandpa's exit. I kept the car running when we made a detour and he slept soundly until we were at our new home base!

Max came out to greet us.

She was dive-bombing and bunking Shane's head to reclaim him as hers.

Bucket hid, as is her usual.

It was a standard drive. My AC compressor held up a little longer and Shane and I listened to I Survived the Destruction of Pompeii 79 AD. Carrie probably sang to Disney tunes. We all stopped in Short Pump for dinner at Wegmans and arrived at Grandma and Grandpa's full and tired.

I tried to talk to Shane about moving to see how he was processing things. He only had two things on his mind though: Going to the beach and fishing with Grandpa!

Maybe the move will hit him later, but for now he was ready to live the good life. Carrie and I tagged along for the ritual.

Grandpa said he used to take Carrie fishing with him all the time....until she turned 10 and he lost her to horses (Then he picked up golf to fill his Saturday mornings!).

They started off small and went looking for crappies.

Grandma made pancakes for everyone Saturday morning and the leftovers proved to be effective bait.

"The boys" wandered up and down the lake enjoying the weather and the fish. They made a friend of another fishermen who talked to them about the local bass.

Carrie laid in the sun and rested while I stuck to the shade. We eventually walked off and left "the boys" at it for hours.

It was a little under a mile and a half walk back. We saw some turtles out sunning.

Carrie spotted a lone fawn.

We got back hours before Shane and Grandpa returned. I exercised, showered, and was sitting around waiting while Carrie and Grandma talked barn and business!

Boo looked thinner and worn than on our last visit. She has thyroid problems and hasn't been fond of Max roaming around (Bucket just hides, so there's minimal drama there).

Max is the eternal explorer. She heard me coming to a door and bolted past me at a full gallop before I registered she was coming. She bounced off my shin bone like feline missile and went to look around.

She's learned how to use the cat door now.

Assuming it's not blocked (heh).

We went out for a family lunch on Saturday at the local Mexican restaurant. Carrie took a nap afterward and Shane and Grandpa disappeared fishing again! Grandpa was worn out by the end of the day!

Carrie eventually woke up and Grandma called the boys home. Shane and I had to get on the road for our next adventure.

There were goodbye hugs.

Grandpa took the best picture of our stay: Shane with a bass!
