House Update

Carrie needed to go by the house, so Shane and I went to keep her company.

The electric company came by and did a lot of work towards getting the house on the grid. I'd like to look into some solar cells if there's a good tax credit available, but that's a post-closing thought.

The barn is far behind schedule and a constant source of stress for Carrie. The builders were one truss shy and had to order a new one. Then they took a week off for some reason or another. When the builder's went to pick up some parts from Lowe's Carrie bought, they found that Lowe's had sold one of the doors from our order to someone else and forgot to replace it. Carrie desperately wants to bring the horses 'home.' She hasn't been out to ride or visit Samwise or Nibs like I thought and it gnaws at her.

Shane climbing around was grating on her, so I took him around front to let him explore out of sight. Frankly, the kid did just about everything my own instincts were imploring me to do!

Climbing around and all over stuff is the most fun way to explore things! He needs to learn the art of discretion for his and for Carrie's sake.

I could see that the septic system was installed while we played out front.

The house is getting closer to completion.

Dry wall is up. Flooring is in.

So are toilets (though not functioning).

The vents for the microwave were installed in the wrong place. Carrie pointed it out and was told, "We will fix it!" Only it wasn't fixed, so now they'll probably have to cut through the dry wall in Shane's closet to get at it.

We went to the local library afterward, because why not? I like libraries. It was a long enough drive and I wanted to do at least a couple things in the area to make it worthwhile.

The library was very small. The sci-fi/fantasy section was a column and a half. It's linked to other libraries in the system so we can have books transferred for pick-up, but it's not big enough to wander the stacks for fun.

Maybe it will be so small it will be easy to get to know the librarians and some of the regulars.

Shane got to play navigator on the way home. He was thrilled. We got updates every half a mile until we told him we only wanted to hear what to do half a mile before the turn. I liked that he was looking at the map and learning how to read it.

We found ourselves in Wegmans near Short Pump for lunch. Carrie spoiled us with chocolate chip cookies and participating in a Pokemon Go raid.

Then it was home for a lot of electronics and a quiet night. Shane's watched Into the Spiderverse twice since it's come on Netflix and Carrie's started working on Pathfinder Part 2 since they updated WoW and introduced Nazjatar. The big, bi-annual Steam sale was yesterday and I bought a slew of small games. I've really enjoyed Into the Breach so far.
