Day of Rest.....Sorta

I'm not sure Carrie got much rest last night. She was peeking out at the horses nearly every hour. The sun came up and they were grazing happily.

My Bible reading plan put me in a section of OT talking about respecting the sabbath. I felt convicted to not pull out my school work. I had grading and planning to be done which gnawed at me some, so I decided to be useful in a different way. I took Loki on a morning walk around the property.

We documented post holes that needed to be filled and picked up trash.

Loki wants to stay near, so the leash isn't necessary most of the time. Some cars rushing by startled him a couple of times, and it was nice to have the retrieval option if necessary.

Carrie come out and did a second lap with us. We plopped down some flags to mark areas of concern.

We went to the small, local church and then scooted into town for errands afterward. Carrie spotted a Lego deal at Costco and pulled the trigger.

I wish Shane played independently with Legos more, but I don't think this will do it. He's too social. Maybe if we get a play-date, he and a friend will go to town (or build their own!).

We bought some better latches for the stalls while we were in town. Sam showed that he could bull through the old, wimpy ones without even meaning to.

Carrie worked with the hardware and relegated me to the dogware.

Speaking of which, Loki got a lot of energy out. I put some ice in his water to help him cool down.

Then I taught him how to crawl through boxes.

It lended itself to some photo ops.

Shane helped at the end, but he's still learning to tamp down his exuberance. He didn't seem to understand it wasn't a good idea to jerk the box around or to try to squish it while Loki was going through. "Just because you think it, doesn't mean you need to do it..."

Loki seems like a tough puppy and he's not easily perturbed. I still want to see some impulse control from Shane.

We went out to look at the horses later. Shane is fascinated by the electric fence. He keeps asking what will happen if he touches it. We keep telling him, "It won't be fun."

And yet, the boy persists. He plucks at the lines with a fingernail or a hand covered by his shirt for a split second. The charge is not constant and prolonged contact with skin is when the magic happens. Shane's felt a pop at the worst and I think it's emboldened him.

I almost want his butt to get shocked so that he'll stop pushing the boundary.

Assuming it wouldn't do any lasting damage. There are two settings for the fence: Livestock and predator. Carrie has it set on predator.

Shane was trying to pet a horse over the fence and I don't know if he surprised Maddie or if she made contact, but she jumped a little and shied away.

Speaking of Maddie, Carrie pulled her braids out.

Carrie's fond of the little pony. She's got some dermatitis around her ankles and acting itchy from all the dust, so Carrie decided it was a bath day.

Our wash stall isn't finished, so this was my contribution.

I haven't done school work, but I did just about everything else over the course of the day.

Except for the actual washing, of course. That was all Carrie.

I'm going to have to learn all the horse care at some point in case Carrie's ever under the weather. For now, she's happy to hog it all and I'm happy to let her have it!
