Weekend Work

Carrie had a project for Shane and me: A manure spreader.

Shane was happy to assist at first.

The tune changed when he started to get hot and it wasn't going as quick as he wanted. Shane threw a pity party and said he was "worthless" and tried to cry/whine out of helping. I told him it was his attitude that was crap and he was old enough and smart enough to be useful.

He threw some rocks over his shoulder and the horses startled slightly. That earned him a slap on the back and a "knock it off." He hadn't expected the horses to react (and neither had I), but he's going to have to keep in mind that we're a farm from now on.

I took Shane to TKD after we'd worked for a bit. I had to stay outside, though.

Loki was with me.

You never notice how many cigarette butts are laying around a place until your puppy tries to eat them. It's reasonably clean around TKD, but there were a few patches the butts were piled high where I was trying to get the dog to poop.

No, Loki was too excited by everything to let anything loose. He eventually did his business in the green by Rose's.

I produced a chew strip and we spent the last 10 minutes sitting outside Shane's class. I got to watch some from the window.

The boys wandered around looking for lizards for a little bit before it was time to go home.

Loki was worn out.

I wouldn't have minded napping myself, but there were things to be done. I let Shane stay inside to watch some TV, so that I could make serious progress on the spreader.

Where was Carrie through all of this? She had left in the morning to pick up Nibs.

Carrie was thrilled to bring her baby girl home.

Nibs is two now and was of high interest to the rest of the herd.

She's still super friendly with people.

And she was also in heat.

That made it interesting introducing her to the others. Sam is gelded, but he was interested. Nibs ran up, turned, and sprayed. Sam stuck his nose up under her tail and after a good long sniff he came out with his upper lip flapping and his shaft dangling in the wind.

"Nasty horses!" Carrie called out. "It's like having horny teenagers."

Neither of them seemed to know what to do, but Sam liked the smells and Nibs kept spraying all over the place. Maddie kept clear.

Carrie's got her work cut out for her!

Shane switched from horse mode to cat mode fairly quickly. I caught him trying to get Lester to lay on him. He didn't seem to understand that after being locked up all day, Lester would have preferred to move about.

After Shane went inside, I got back to work on the spreader.

I wanted to finish before the rehearsal dinner, but it was a longer project than expected. Carrie could have had it shipped "mostly assembled" for $189 extra dollars.

I was happy to forgo the charge and do it myself.

I wouldn't finish the spreader until Sunday morning. There were a lot of other things going on for the weekend.....like Patrick's wedding.
