The Deal:
Shane could earn $2/day towards Minecraft for 30 minutes of typing practice and 30 minutes of language practice.
Time to complete:
14 days.
My goals:
To give Shane something productive to work towards. To help him learn to touch type and learn a language.
Shane's goals:
To get Minecraft and play online with friends.
It was my favorite type of plan: Win-win.
Shane worked at for 3 days and then took the next 6 off.
It bugged me, but I wanted to make sure it was his decision and his efforts which would earn the prize.
I got some help when Dylan called. They tried turning educational mode on, but the boys weren't able to play. Shane needed to get the Windows 10 version to play online and "Oh! So Sorry! You haven't earned it yet."
Shane got a lot more motivated after that. Dylan wanted to try again next Saturday, so we had a deadline, too!
I allowed Shane to work more than 1 hour a day so he could finish in time (and I helped him get to it a few times...).
Shane did the last two hours of work Saturday morning (6/13). We were installing and updating when Dylan called!
We've added Dylan and Cole to Shane's friend list so far. I hope we can add Henry, too, and Shane can cyber socialize some.
My only regret: We couldn't install the retail edition of Minecraft on Shane's school laptop. He has to take over mine!
B plays, too! So ask Megan how to add him. Maybe you can bring it to the beach. So proud of Shane and you for his hard work to reach his goal.
