Hey Loki! Can you guess who's getting a makeover next?
Hint: It's you!
Loki didn't get a haircut, but his odor had matured to the point he needed a bath. He hasn't had one since February, I think.
Loki's coat is still a problem. The water resistant outside clamps down. It forms a weird shell (and feels like it, too). It traps water and soap in. I scrub and scrub and inevitably find soap bubbles even after he's been in the tub!
I brushed Loki before bathing this time, because I read it helped online.
I can't say I saw much of a difference (except in the brush - There are some new teeth marks, because he wouldn't stop trying to bite it!).
It still amazes me how much smaller Loki looks when wet. I put my hand on his chest and took a picture to show how far down his wet fur hangs.
His fuzz has a life of it's own. His leg hairs went from flooffy to firm wings.
I let Loki come outside with me to dry and show Carrie. I'd hoped the 90 degree weather would help dry him enough that I wouldn't have to use the blow dryer.
I didn't count on Loki wanting to roll through the grass, but a dog's a dog!
Loki dried eventually, but the bath may have helped kick-start his yearly molting.
I read online that male shelties blow their undercoats at the start of summer. The summer heat's been here, but Loki hadn't shown that he was really shedding.
The day after the bath Carrie noticed hair coming off in clumps. We grabbed the furminator and went to work.
Yes, buddy, that's all you!
I've kept filling the bin, too. Loki hates being brushed, but hopefully he's going to appreciate feeling much cooler! I've been worried about him melting in his fur coat, but I don't think I'm going to have to buzz him bald to cope anymore.
