Chicken Coop

Before:

After:

Of course, it was raining. Carrie stayed home sick from work, so she could watch Shane. It took a couple of hours, a 50 yard roll of chicken wire, staples, staple gun, and a wire cutter.

Farmer Julie recommended we leave some mesh at the bottom going away from the lattice. It should deter digging predators. I put rocks to weight down the mesh around the asphalt.

I cut down the random tulip poplar tree that tried to grow, raked, weeded, and stapled up sections of wire. Our staples weren't as large as I would have liked. I noticed I could yank sections out easily. Carrie delivered a hammer and I pounded them in further. Then we crossed our fingers Shane didn't try to climb up the wire for whatever reason a five your old could conjure.

I cleaned out the inside, too. There were a bunch of ground wasps. Carrie tried to clear them out with cooking spray. I wasn't stung, so it worked (Thank you, internet).

The last area I need to address is the door. I need to put down a grate, rocks, or something to prevent a fox from digging under.

Carrie went ahead and moved the chickens down while I typed, though. The problem will have to be solved at another time. Enough effort has been expended for morning. Hopefully, there's no blood bath before we get back to it.

Oh yeah, I found a baby snake. I gave it to Carrie to help entertain Shane.

He got thrown back in the yard later. Maybe he'll be chicken food.

EDIT: I got to the door.
