Carrie woke me up at 4:30 AM New Year's Eve to let me know she needed to see a doctor. We headed out at 8 AM to try and be first in line at an urgent care. We got the help needed and I dropped Carrie back off at the house while I went to pick up the prescription. Shane went to church with Nana and Pop while Carrie and I streamed a service.
Nana, Pop, and Shane stayed out after church. They went to Zaxby's for grilled cheeses and saw Ferdinand at the theater. I dropped Carrie off for a hair appointment (She was thrilled how much cheaper they were in SC), and then I returned home to work on the blog and play some XCOM Long War.
There was a Harry Potter marathon on all day. Carrie and I watched some while Shane was out and then again after he went to bed. I went up before midnight while Carrie snoozed on the sofa trying to finish the series.
New Year's day I went with Nana, Pop, and Shane to their gym. Have I mentioned that Shane is Poke-obsessed? Pop and Nana know all the stops. Pop would pull off into parking lots and scoot along back roads, so that Shane could pick up items from certain landmarks.
Pop hopped on the treadmills while Nana, Shane, and I went to the pool. There weren't any other kids around, so I became the main attraction.
It's fun to throw kids in pools. I couldn't do it at first, because there were some lap swimmers. Shane's become a whole lot braver in the water this past year. I'd launch him and he'd turn around for round 2 as he hit the water.
Shane, Nana, and Pop picked up Zaxby's for lunch on the way home. Carrie and I went out to her new favorite lunch spot, Maple Street Biscuit Company.
I've been bugging Carrie to try out a game with me called Caverna. It's a much heavier game than she typically likes, but I thought the theme of building your home would be more appealing than a war game or duel.
It wasn't a hit with her. Meds and Shane probably didn't help. I liked it, but this one may not see much play time in the future.
Shane was interested, but he's too young. I hope he'll be a board game buddy one day, but that's still off in the far future.
Tomorrow, we head back to our regularly scheduled lives. It's been amazing to be with family and on break.
Happy New Year to all!
