I can't remember the last time it hit freezing right before May. I had to blanket all the horses last night. The blankets had to come off in the morning since no one would be home and hopefully things would warm up quick enough!
Shane and I did morning chores in the cold. He got to work instead of ride the bus! I dropped him off on my way to work.
I came back to find my classroom was mostly intact. The projector remote was an unfortunate casualty.
Today was Nora's last day. I thought about letter her teach it alone to get the full teaching experience, but then I wouldn't have gotten to say goodbye. It was also an A day and a Friday, so it was set to be a doozy!
I wish I could have stayed later to talk with Nora and have more closure to student teaching (for both our sake's), but I had to run.
Shane was home alone.
Shane normally gets off the bus alone. Then he normally gets in the house alone. But he normally doesn't stay alone.
I could have called Sarah and asked her to pick Shane up from school, but I figured he was old enough to be on his own for an hour and a half. I didn't want him to get creative and find trouble, so I told him that as long as he called me once he got home I'd let him play Roblox.
Logically, I knew it'd be fine, but I was still nervous. I felt better once Shane called. He probably never got up from the computer once he logged on.
So a few minutes before the bell, I nodded goodbye to Nora and snuck out to beat the rush and check on Shane. She was meeting up with her fellow student-teachers for a party at Cardinal Hall after she packed up her stuff.
Of course, Shane was fine. We made it to goalie training on time, too.
And so ended my first and last day as a single working parent for the year. It was my first time to finish being a mentor, too. I'll mention to Carrie that Shane was old enough to for his first latchkey experience....when the time is right!
