Cook that Chicken (Summer)

Shane discovered he doesn't like his chicken rare.

We've been working on teaching Shane to cook some basic meals. He can do a grilled cheese, boil water for pasta, and throw frozen foods in the oven. He has the instructions for his favorite frozen dish, taquitos, memorized.

Tysons Chicken Tenders suggest turning the tenders halfway to cook thoroughly. Shane pulled them out halfway, but instead of flipping the tenders he started to eat them.

He finished a whole fillet before telling Carrie that something was wrong, too!

Carrie was upset and worried, so naturally she called me. I was at the District Wrestling Tournament, though. I listened, and said Shane could stay home tomorrow if he got diarrhea.

For the record, I wasn't trying to minimize things. I was being practical. There's no pretreatment for possible food poisoning. The symptoms needed a toilet for whatever end(s) they erupted from.

I did some light online searching and sent a link I thought would be helpful....which means I conveniently forgot Rule #1 of internet medical searches: Look/worry hard enough and all symptoms will lead to horrible endings.

Carrie didn't freak out in front of Shane, but she sent me a lot of worried texts. Winter wears on her and me being gone all day doesn't help, either.

Thankfully, Carrie didn't ask me to leave the match. They watched TV to stay distracted (which made it part of the problem and the cure!).

Carrie was exhausted by the time the match ended (Wednesdays are typically when the barn gets vet, visitor, and farrier calls). If things were in a better state, I would've helped more with tournament cleanup.

Shane never got sick. He woke up. He went to school. He got a valuable lesson on paying attention to details and learned gooey pink chicken is a no-go! There have been no future incidents of chicken sushi and no other food poisonings to report.
