Jama's trash chute was next. She had a bag ready and waiting. Shane was so eager I had to hold the back of his shirt to make sure he didn't jump down with it.
There was a purpose for our visit other than trash chutes. Jama lamented that Shane never got a chance to see her chickens before we moved. She helped him pick out some chocolate for energy and then we went on a walk.
The chicken were across the street at the assisted living facility. Jama supplied us with crackers and enthusiasm. She used to feed the chickens every morning at the Coleman farm with her sister, Dot. She said the chickens terrified her!
Not anymore. Jama encouraged Shane to hand out crackers lower and lower; She wanted a peck to see him jump! There was much excitement, but no fingers were hurt in the process. Shane was shoving grass through and laughing by the end.
The sky threatened rain and we called it a day. Shane and I wanted to start heading west before traffic worsened. We were going to try and see Manassas Battlefield with Ryan, but timing and weather were not our allies. Instead, we scooted back out to Highway 29 for Wawa and the trip home happy and tired.
PS - the storms made it up to me. Shane decided he wanted to nap when we were an hour out....at 6:00 PM!!! I told him there was a storm ahead and he perked right up. We only hit a little rain but the dark clouds fascinated him. I didn't have to fight to keep Shane awake at all.
