Shane's been eager with anticipation. Friday was Rocktoberfest!
I gave him $5 to buy tickets. Either it would be a chance for him to show some responsibility, or it would be a hard lesson learned if he lost the $5 or the tickets after buying them.

That seemed like a fair set of outcomes for a reasonable price to me.
I used the tickets to talk to Shane a little bit about "bang for the buck." The tickets were advertised as "5 for a dollar" pre-sale and "4 for a dollar" after doors opened. I am a math teacher!
Carrie and I picked Shane up from school together.
Good catch, Honey!
Then we walked out to Rocktoberfest as a family! I wanted to hit the auctions first. We won some free bread a couple of years ago. There were a ton of fun events I wanted to throw a ticket into. Shane found some tickets on the floor and turned them into his principal, Dr. Malone. Dr. Malone handed some back to Shane as a finder's fee.
The only thing Shane didn't like about the situation was that we made him write his own name on all the tickets we used!
We had no luck with the drawings, but we ran into Sam and his family!
Not that the boys stuck together. I thought Shane would have wanted to, but he was too stuck on doing whatever it was he wanted to do. I would have loved to have grouped up and talked, but I wasn't going to dictate Shane to do one thing or the other. Sam's family had Toby and Grandparents with them, so they were their own entity and not about to follow one hyper boy running off into the sunset.
Shane was eager to earn coins.
He really wanted to earn a fidget spinner.
I enjoyed seeing all the kids Shane knew, but his focus was on the prize. His excitement was uncontainable.
I was amazed he waited in line for the scavenger hunt. Then again, the ticket to coin ratio has been superb in years past!
I recognized more kids from soccer than I did from afterschool. I wish Shane had socialized more, but coins were on the brain and Carrie was ready to go. She hung on for Shane to spend more tickets and then we blew our last tickets on food.
So far, Rocktoberfest has been a fun time 3 out of 3 times. Shane's said he wished it was twice a year!
