Here's a picture of us at our new bus stop! The county bus stops right at our driveway.
The goobers were feeling goofy.
That's my fam!
Shane wasn't ready to call it quits when the photo session ended.
He started to watch his shadow do the floss.
I had to go inside for some reason and by the time I came back out the bus was pulling away. It was 11 minutes late.
My first day went well. I hoped to hear a similar report when I picked Shane up from his afterschool program.
"Can I get a first day picture?" I asked.
"No, a real one."
I got the one good picture while I was talking. Shane didn't realize I was still taking pictures. He started to act like a stink again the moment he thought I was ready for the real picture.
Shane had a mixed report for the first day. He seemed bubbly and fine, but he talked about bullies. He said one kid tried to punch him in the nuts and that the kids were rude to the teacher. "They were all in 'summer mode!'" Shane said.
We talked more as we drove home and I gently teased out some more details. Shane thought it was because he was "the new kid," but I didn't expect when he said, "The teacher said I sounded aggressive."
Shane? Aggressive?
"Not my words. My tone maybe."
The teacher did email later on. He said that Shane acted nervous and got very loud. That sounded plausible (Even likely! I'm loud....Shane's loud.....and he can be a demonstrative, drama king).
We wrote back and we're hoping for a smoother day two. Shane and I talked about managing his voice. He knows God loves him and we love him and he's got other friends, family, and cousins who care about him, as well. The school friends will come in time.
