The rest of the school week

I made sure to see Shane actually on to the bus the second day of school. We wanted to show him our support as he shipped off.

He's been a little nervous about school, but also excited about the chance of making new friends. We're hoping yesterday was a fluke.

The bus showed up a little earlier today and Shane was off! I hopped in my car and headed out right afterward.

And the routine was set. Shane's up by 7 AM. We put him on the bus, I drive off to work, and sometime after 5 PM I leave and pick him up on my way home. Shane doesn't want me to pick him up too early, so it tends to be after 5:30 PM. I have plenty to keep me busy at work, so it works for both of us.

Only change: Shane has decided to start a(nother) rock collection. He collects any quartz he finds in our driveway and has big plans to sell them for a nickel apiece.

So far, my job is a lot of work. My last job was a lot of emotional patience and endurance. The actual workload was lower overall with periods of slowness and periods of crisis. My current job has a much steadier workload even if I'm not getting cursed at, insulted or threatened. The hours say 8:45 AM - 4 PM, but I tend to work 8 AM - 5:20ish PM with grading and other bits at night (it's partly why I'm so behind on the blog).

But it feels like a good fit so far.

My school works on an A - B block rotation. The whole county has adopted the same scheduling system. I worked blocks back when I was at Centreville, so it's not new. My first thought: My A days will be easiest. I have a co-teacher 1st period, Freshman Seminar 2nd period which is ungraded, and then an Honors class.

Time will tell if that's actually true.

All the while Shane and I have been in school, progress has continued at the house.

Carrie's either out talking to Kyle and his crew or working herself.

She's very happy with the work they've done so far. They're working other jobs, so there won't be guarantees they'll be here every day, but they make progress every time they show up.

So to some up the first week of school: Lots of stuff is getting done and still needs to be done for Carrie, Shane, and me. Signs are pointing towards progress!
