Changing Things Up

"What do you see?" Carrie asked. She'd changed something and wanted to see what I thought.

I felt like an idiot, because I wasn't sure what had changed at first.

Only after I stood there stupidly and Carrie said something did I realize she'd put magnets all over the garage door.

"What do you think?" She asked.

If I was smarter, I would have said something nice.

Instead, I was confused, and asked, "Why?"

"You really know how to deflate me," Carrie said. "Our boarders drive by this door every time they visit. Now it looks prettier!"

In addition to the field work, Carrie's newfound energy has been poured into home upgrades here and there.

Some are practical: Carrie installed a new door lock for Shane. This way he can let himself in when he hops off the bus in case Carrie's at the barn or whatever else.

A few days later she upgraded the knob, too. It looks better, and now she can't accidentally leave the bottom locked! (Makes you wonder if that happened...)

The first change was in the house, though. Carrie replaced the light fixture over the kitchen table.

"I always wanted to switch out the base lights," Carrie said. "It wasn't worth it to have the builders do it. I figured I'd do it on my own eventually."

The biggest change for me was this: Carrie moved the trashcan.

I have actually dropped trash on the floor where the trashcan used to be. I frequently turn one way, see the empty spot, stop myself mid deposit, mutter, and then turn to the new spot.

Weeks later it still irks me. I went to the trouble of editing a photo, did I not?

The other changes continued piecemeal. There was a small touch up ever day or so when I got home. First a fixture, then new light bulbs, etc.

A long look from Aria at the island fixture prompted Carrie to yell, "No!" Aria turned her gaze, temporarily thwarted. But if she does decide to try her luck no amount of yelling will stop her!

So far there hasn't been a loud crash in the night, but I wouldn't bet against it, either.

Carrie worked on the walls, as well. Misha's art is 90% of all our wall paintings.

Carrie bought matching light fixtures for the dining room and front entrance hall, as well.

What hasn't changed are Carrie's cat pictures.

She loves to send me pictures of sleeping cats!

Tsuki is a frequent favorite, but all felines are photogenic to Carrie.

Thankfully, all Carrie's upgrades aren't costing us a fortune. She does her own electrical work (and knows far more about it than me). The light fixtures were bought on clearance, refurbished, off ebay, or used. A pack of magnets was far cheaper than a new garage door. I think the only thing she purchased new was the lock and that was after days of price and quality researching!
