Saturday was busy! Gay came to ride with Carrie and brought a long a friend.
Then Sarah showed up. She stayed to watch, because Carrie was working with Lane.
But Sarah didn't show up alone! Wyatt and Lilly came with her. We were going to watch them while Sarah took care of some errands in town.
Wyatt calls Shane "Mane." He has a speech impediment. Some of what he says reminds me of how Nana and Jama said I talked around Wyatt's age ("Otay" instead of "Okay," "Jenna Jame" instead of "Rent a game," etc.
But that's enough about me. The kids were the highlight of the day, and our pets were a highlight for them. First off, everyone visited the bunny. Then Shane brought out the cats one by one to be introduced (and then frightened into hiding by all the loud kids!).
Loki loved every loud minute of it. He contributed. He got even more excited when Lilly found a ball for him to fetch!
Wyatt made a beeline for Shane's Legos. He was the first to ask to watch something on TV. He wanted to see the Jurassic Park: Camp Cretaceous cartoon Shane had showed them the last time they visited.
Things had gone from loud and wild to calm and quiet when the ladies came in after riding (They wanted to meet the bunny, too!).
After an electronic break, we threw the kids outside to play.
Loki went with, and the game seemed to be "Run away from the dog."
Carrie rejoined the mayhem after she showered and it was electronics quiet time round 2.
Shane wanted to do some group video game time (which seemed to mean him playing with an audience!).
Did you notice how close the cat tree was to the tv in the last picture? Tsuki did!
Carrie was quick to move it back to prevent cats knocking over the Christmas nutcrackers Grandma made for us (I just took pictures and laughed!).
After another round of TV time, we kicked the kids outside to run, scream, and bark some more.
I told the kids we had to do a lap of the yard and went with this time.
Lilly and Shane ended up running way ahead. Wyatt felt left out, "Why are they being mean?"
"They're not being mean," I said. "They're just having fun running! Besides, I'm here with you!"
"They're not being mean," I said. "They're just having fun running! Besides, I'm here with you!"
It was clear I didn't count to Wyatt, heh. He wanted to catch up to the other kids! They went in the house before we cleared the barn.
We knew where they were going, though. Once we got inside, Wyatt ran straight back to Shane's Legos. He brought them out into the main room to play with (to Shane's chagrin when he realized I'd make him help clean them up later!).
What we thought would be a 2 or 3 hour play date turned into over five hours of kids running around! Lilly acted like she was exhausted when Sarah finally arrived.
Shane's fantastic with little kids. He's got the energy and excitement to match them and the control to make sure no one gets hurt. If he gets better at active listening and working out what people mean versus what they say he'd make a great elementary school teacher one day! I think he's on more of a science or engineering route at the moment, though.
