Tuesday morning a little after 8 AM, Kitsune was born!
We'd just dropped Eowyn off yesterday afternoon! Supposedly she got halfway through her breakfast, took a break, laid down, spit Kit out, and then finished her meal.
Carrie said that Eowyn is showing all the signs of a good mother. She's attentive and gentle with her foal.
Eowyn hadn't shown any signs of milk production when Carrie trailered her off yesterday. Apparently, maiden mares are notorious for not showing consistent warning signs they're about to give birth.
Carrie said it only takes about 6 hours for a mare to go from empty to ready.
Carrie showered and then masked up immediately thereafter before going to see Kit Tuesday afternoon. She couldn't wait to meet the fella and snap some pictures!
Kit almost came home Wednesday, but the vet said his white blood cell count was a little low. Kit was put on an antibiotic regimen to get the count up and he'll come home on the weekend instead.
Carrie couldn't be contained and drove out again on Thursday to see Kit.
She said Kit was unsure of her and wouldn't let her touch him at first. However, she noticed some areas he kept trying to itch and snuck up while he was nursing. She scritched the itch and it took a second for Kit to realize it wasn't Mama.
Eowyn came over and there was a scratching party in Stall 8.
Carrie won over Kitsune. She was now the second best thing after Mama Eowyn.
Monday is the transport day from what I hear. Everything should be ready here.
