Mowing helps pastures. When the grass gets too long, it starts putting energy into seed production. Cutting it before that point keeps it nutrient rich.
Carrie disturbed a bunny den while mowing. She sent me a picture at work.
Four babies came hopping out. She gathered them up and put them in Sir Hopkins' old cage to keep them safe while she finished.
She marked the hole's entrance with a flag and got back to it.
There have been a lot of bunnies this year. I've seen them in the barn, when dumping poop, and when out wandering with Loki.
Normally, you don't get to see the babies up close and in your hand! (Of course, Carrie showed Shane when he got home from school!).
The bunnies started off separate when Carrie put them in the cage.
They had clumped together by the time I got home.
Carrie said it's instinct for them. It didn't look comfortable to me.
Carrie gathered them all up in the evening to return home. In case it's not obvious, there are FOUR bunnies in this pile-up.
This picture makes it easier to see #4.
She walked them out in her "I'm out of foxes to give" tee shirt.
The hole was shortly before the 2nd horse jump. Once the rabbits have time to grow up, we'll probably have to drop some dirt in the hole to fill it up in case a horse could trip on it.
