Practice comes and practice goes! I haven't gotten less nervous about running things, but I feel blessed each week when things go well.
We're double-booked Saturdays. This time, there was no conflict.
We came, Shane rode, and Shane asked to see where the barn cats hide.
PG showed him.
I was in no hurry, because the forecast was rain. I figured the game was going to be cancelled (again). We dropped by the library on the way home.
I checked the website all day for a cancellation that never came. It started to pour bucketfulls in Scottsville, but apparently it was fine in Cville!
So we suited up and headed out. I told Shane I would be thrilled if we played the game, but I was going to be annoyed if we got there and it got cancelled.
Thankfully, the weather was fine in Cville. I had been salty about going, but was glad I did. We played against Purple this time.
It was a close game until Widji accidentally took out one of their best players. Widji was much shorter and managed to headbutt the kid and give him a headache (completely unintentional). When he stepped out, the game swung in our favor.
To which the other coach kept saying he didn't care. He was so laid back he didn't wait for the ref to do subs! That got Francisco angry and I had to play peacemaker in the beginning. It ended on great terms with the other coach giving one of our guys spare shin guards so that he could continue playing after the ref called him out (Note to self: Have spares on hand if I coach again!)
I think this is the game we hung out for over an hour afterward. I have pictures of Shane in a tree...
...and an empty parking lot!
One more game down. I'm counting down to the end of the year! It's already been successful enough the rest of the season could be cancelled and I'd feel good about my efforts. I'd like perfect attendance, though, so I have to hang on a little longer! "...one who waters will himself be watered." Maybe I'll coach again next Spring.
Coach Mike has a good ring to it! Shane will remember his whole life that you cared enough to coach his team. Well done!
