The drama department was giving teaser previews for their end of year performance: Crybaby the musical. They had a showing during my Computer Science 2 class, so we all walked down to see it.
I found myself back in the theater hours later. I had multiple students participating and asking me if I'd be there.
So I was.
The truth is: I wanted to be lazy. Showing people you care takes effort. It was the right thing to do, though. I thought about bringing Shane (I can really see him being a drama kid one day), but I'm glad I didn't. The play was more risque than I thought it'd be!
The kids did a great job. There's definitely a lot of talent in the student body. There a couple of my students from last year in big roles and I was impressed with what I saw!
More of my students were behind the scenes and I saw more kids I knew in the audience. I was lucky and bumped into another math teacher, Mrs. Bambury, so I wasn't alone in the crowd.
I was exhausted by the time it was over. Including intermission I was gone a lot longer than expected! I made sure to congratulate kids as I saw them the next for surviving performance week.
I think it's really important that you went to that! Bravo! Well done! You're a great teacher and encourager!
