Sunday Drive

Shane and I drove to Richmond for our first visit in nine months! It never feels like that long in between, but the blog posts say otherwise (We had been going to meet Kim and Ryan for Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa's but that fell through on our end).

Shane was happy (and I was surprised) to see that Kim and Ryan hadn't forgotten Shane's birthday or Christmas gifts! Kim made the comment that visiting them must be akin to visiting grandparents for Shane. He gets presents just for showing up!

Kim and Ryan both offered to show Shane a local playground and to get out of the house, but he was happy to run around the premises. He inspected any new Legos he could find,...

...tracked down cats, ran up stairs,...

..., and toured the yard and swingset.

Ryan tried to play catch, but Shane really wanted to catch a crawdad. He started digging holes in the yard.

They eventually played catch in the front yard, but Ryan did all the running. Shane's not accurate with a frisbee. Ryan would chuck it to him and then Shane's throws went all over creation.

We played a few board games afterward. First, was Dixit (Shane learned to play it the day before). Kim won. Then we played Here Kitty, Kitty.....a game where you have to collect cats. I joked that my goal would be to come in last place. Ryan won that one. He didn't gloat, though, because he got very distracted when Michigan State's basketball team lost in the final seconds of their March Madness run.

It's not summer yet, so we had to head home after several hours of running around. It was a school night. Berry probably needed a break from Shane, as well. He'd hidden in the litter box for the last hour we visited!

It was nice to catch up. Kim's ready to win the lottery and retire early. Ryan and I swapped teacher stories. We started our current positions at the same time. I'm hoping that my school district will catch up to Ryan's in the amount of snow closings they called this week....but that's another tale.
