Grandma's Surgery and Recovery

Grandma had her knee replaced while Shane was out of town. The surgery went well (and took a shockingly short period of time! Under 50 minutes!). Grandma had recovered enough she wanted visitors!

So on Sunday, we saddled up and drove over. Shane narrated his game of Civilization VI after Carrie and I's sermon was done streaming.

Grandma was up and working on lunch until she hugged Shane and Carrie shooed her to a chair.

Overall, the recovery has gone well.

I pulled Shane over, so he could see.

There was a lot of bruising, but Grandma was doing what she needed to do and following the exercise regimen.

We had hamburgers for lunch shortly thereafter.

The porch was in full lockdown to avoid pine pollen season. 

I had been wearing a hat this whole time. I caught Carrie's eye during the meal and took the hat off to reveal the man-tail. Grandma didn't notice at first, but when she said, "You can put the hat back on!" I knew we made a splash. Just look at Carrie's reaction!

Shane's appetite waxes and wanes. It tends to wax for fast food, but wane for anything adults feel is 'healthy' or 'higher quality.' 

Today, it waned and he swore he was too stuffed to eat anything else.

My reply was "That's fine. It's your decision. If you decide to finish your food then you can have some of the mint chocolate chip ice cream Grandpa bought for you." Then I grabbed the carton and dug in with a spoon right next to him.

It was a real sacrifice, but I ate the top third of the carton.

Shane wandered off to moan on the couch for the while about being too full and how unfair it was I'd eat in front of him....but that must've burned off some calories, because he came back later to eat the hamburger and finish the bottom 2/3rds of the carton! 

After lunch, Grandma enlisted Shane to help her with some of her physical therapy exercises. 

It was a short visit, but before we left Grandpa brought up The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. He hadn't seen all the MCU movies and had a few backstory questions. Carrie overheard and gave her parents a chronological list of all the movies to watch for homework!

We drove home after that. Ellie called out, so we had to do evening horse chores.
