There's a satellite dish on the house, but it doesn't do anything.
This one does. We signed up for Starlink internet and the equipment finally arrived!
We started looking for a better internet solution last year (November?). There aren't great options where we are, but we heard good things about Elon Musk's Starlink service. The idea is that satellites can provide internet service instead of land lines or cell towers.
We had some coaxial cable already pumping into the house from the back deck, so Carrie plugged up the system there.
It's already better than what we had before. I used to average ~2 Mb/s on Steam downloads with a max of ~5 Mb/s. I consistently downloaded a game at 5 Mb/s and had a spike of 18.9 Mb/s!
Will it stay better? Hopefully! The speeds seem variable, but on average it seems like it's at least three times as fast as our old service. We had to pay ~$600 for all the equipment, so it'll take a while to pay itself off.
That is so interesting! And complicated! Yay for Carrie for being able to set it up! Will you still have to pay a monthly fee?
