With Carrie gone, taking care of the all the animals became my responsibility. Exercise is necessary for dogs! That includes playing fetch.
Loki's the one who wants to play. Kila just likes to take toys from Loki! He gives it over to her, too. When she leaves it alone, he'll scoop it up, drop it in front of me, and start barking for me to throw it.
Shane's home, so I can make him scoop the cat pots. However, the rabbits became a me job. Bunsen's chewed through his house to give himself a skylight (Rabbits chew and destroy stuff more than puppies!).
Kila's mostly accident free, but a big enough scare or too long between exercise breaks can create bonus work.
Kila, the wuss, has been afraid of the big water bowl. I experimented with putting her water bowl into the big bowl.
She was scared of it for a couple hours, but eventually got thirsty enough to timidly try it. All of her wait was on her back legs and she skittered away at the slightest noise, ha!
One less water bowl to fill would be a little less work.
The horses are the big energy sink when it comes to animal care, obviously. Maddy was having a ball scratching her legs on some boards here. I'm not as knowledgeable as Carrie, but I have to try and watch everyone's behavior while doing chores, check feet, and stay apprised if anything happens out of the ordinary.
And then there's this animal. He can help with some things (cat litter and fish!), but he's a bundle of energy himself! Still, I'm glad he's here. He's full of life and I love that. Things would feel too quiet without him. I try to tell Shane from time to time I'm grateful God allowed me to be his dad.
Carrie being out of town did allow me to have a friend over without stressing her out! I cleaned up beforehand, so she wouldn't be embarrassed in hindsight either. Scott came over for some food and cards on the weekend. I would've loved to get Mark and Hazel over, as well, but it's harder to get people together as an adult (or maybe I just make friends with all busy people?).
It's going to be a full week with animals, Shane, work, and no Carrie! We'll make it through, but I'm sure I'll be tired by the time she gets back.
