Spring means warmer weather. Warmer weather means clipping season.
Everyone would shed naturally, but the heat comes quick in Virginia. It's easier to help things along!
I don't help with the clipping (achoo!). Sometimes I help with the cleanup, though (Still achoo!).
We've had a lot of rain this season, so the grass is growing.
That means the horses are getting to partake of the green.
It also means muzzle season will start soon. Some of the horses have to be watched to make sure they don't get sick on all that fresh goodness.
Like Maddie. She has trouble with too much fresh grass (even though she loves it so). This was a colic case and not laminitis, though. It gave Carrie a scare.
Carrie actually tried breeding Maddy without telling me. I was out of town when she shipped Maddie down the street to meet a stud. It didn't take and with the colic, Carrie didn't want to try again.
Which brings me to Indy. He's been living in the yard and in his temporary pen. Carrie decided it was time to reintegrate him to the herd, because there was more than enough grass for all.
This was the result.
Abby has been playing Mama to the babies. It's just her and the two of them, because Lilly is at Kim's for boarding and daily training (more on that later).
Abby has always been a horny girl. It feels like she goes into heat weekly. She's been a great adoptive mother to the babies, but maybe that got her thinking about other things.
She's never given Indy the time of day before, but now that she has he is alllll about her.
Not that he can easily bridge the height difference.
Carrie sent some pictures to Jess and she was shocked her old man was up to younger man shenanigans with her friend's horse!
Carrie moved quickly and Indy was back to being a yard pony.
He'll have to watch from the other side of the fence while Abby plays momma to the herd.
Not that it keeps him totally out of trouble. When you see it, you see it....
Technically, that picture was taken earlier in the month. It happened more than once and we had to block him off from getting in the hay barn.
Later in the month, I found out Indy was willing to walk through the human door to get into the barn. He snuck in behind me and was nuzzling the feed bin when I turned around.
Carrie brought Lilly home from training one day for a photo shoot.
Indy was interested. So interested he attempted to pop on top while Carrie was walking Lilly to the barn! I didn't get a picture, because Carrie yelled for me to come over. I put away my camera and helped shoo him off as it happened!
Indy got put up to let Lilly do her thing. Carrie's working on marketing her and she was home to try a jump chute.
Which went phenomenally. Carrie loves Lilly so much I'm still surprised she's willing to sell her sometimes. She was a proud horse-momma after the shoot. There will definitely be more developments upcoming with Lilly in May!
